The Central Scientific Laboratory of the Medical University of Lodz is equipped with a tandem mass spectrometer Q-ToF Premier coupled with a nanoACQUITY UPLC (Waters), which allows to perform analysis of proteins, peptides and low molecular weight compounds.
With using mass spectrometry it is possible to:
- measure the molecular weight of peptides and proteins,
- identify the protein composition in the sample (identification from dry pellets, solutions and SDS PAGE band),
- identify posttranslational modifications (PTM) sites for glycation, acetylation, methylation.
We also prepare peptide maps for identified proteins.
It is possible to identify proteins from both SDS PAGE 1D and 2D gel bands (Coomassie or silver stained) as well as from solutions or precipitates.
The details of the experiment should be determined individually, especially in the context of sample preparation. The key parameters are: the concentration of the sample and the composition of the solution.
